Bios > MICHAEL COFFEY


Michael has been playing bass guitar since the age of thirteen. Originaly a trumpet player, he switched to bass when he realized that marching band was mandatory for high school freshmen. During the eighties Michael spent the better part of his freshman and sophmore years in leather pants and long hair playing Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath cover tunes in local metal bands. During his junior and senior years he studied double bass at the Long Island School for the Arts in Syosset L.I. and soon after was accepted to the Manhattan School of Music for Orchestral Doublebass Studies. He went on to recieve a master's degree in music education from the Aaron Copeland School of Music at Queens College and has been a public school music educator for the past twenty years. Currently he is the orchestra director at Roslyn High School on Long Island. Throughout his career as a music educator, Michael has performed regularly on bass guitar in various funk, soul, blues and rock bands.

He has two beautiful daughters
